I immediately thought of all the ways I wasn't qualified

Instead of all the ways I was.

A few years ago, someone asked me to do camp nursing.

I immediately thought of all the ways I wasn’t qualified for the role.

I’d never worked with school aged children before.

I’d never seen a camp nurse before.

I hadn’t even done direct patient care for 8 years.

And I wasn’t much of an outdoors person.

I just finished my 4th summer and I’m looking forward to more.

I feel so appreciated, welcomed, and satisfied with the care I get to provide to campers and staff.

I get to have a working vacation every summer.

I got to fish, snorkel, paddleboard, canoe, rock climb, have campfires, and make so many memories with my family.

Podcast episode with nurse Rosa Hart!

In this episode, nurse Rosa Hart sits down with nursing thought leader, keynote speakers, and bestselling author (aka me) to talk candidly about the realities of nursing career transitions-from bedside to remote roles and everything in between.

What we covered:

  • What networking actually is (and what it isn’t) and why nurses are already great at it

  • Why LinkedIn is not just for job seekers, and how to build your presence before you need it

  • The truth about remote nursing: what nurses assume vs. what it actually looks like

  • How to pivot into non-bedside roles and own your transferable skills

  • The “real nurse” identity trap and mindset shift needed to move past it

  • Applicant tracking systems (ATS)-what they are and how to avoid resume formatting mistakes

  • AI in nursing: what’s changing, what’s not, and how to stay ahead

  • The “golden handcuffs” dilemma and how to decide when it’s time to move on

  • Sara’s billion-dollar proposal: better nurse-to-patient ratios and redefining full-time work for nurses
